Contract Specialist Training

Contract Specialist Training

Although not all contract specialist are government jobs, I would recommend that you go to http://www.usajobs.gov/A search for a "contract specialist intern" or internship. Look at these contracting jobs, will give you an good overview of the requirements and salaryAn internship programs is your best bet. Your starting pay (GS pay grade) often depend on your education/experience. Typically GS-05 requires a bachelor's degree, or 3 years general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4 and a GS-07 requires 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement or 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5. There are summer internships available, but these fill earlier (apply in Feb) Usually your internship can get you promoted to GS-11 position after you meet the training and time in grade (Level II cert.) The government provides online training, on the job training and usually training offsite. This often a job where you are paid for what you know, so you spending a lot of time reading and maybe doing research so you can correctly respond to request for information. Depending on the job you may have to assist in the evaluation of proposals, either request or provide clarifications before contract awards and after verify or evaluate contract performance.
